Officials found a woman’s body while fighting a fire at an Aroostook County residence on Thursday.
Firefighters responded to a reported fire at 258 Carvell Road in Mapleton shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday, Shannon Moss, a spokesperson for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a news release.
While fighting the blaze, first responders found a woman deceased in the home, Moss said.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will positively identify the victim and determine their cause of death, Moss said. The home is a total loss.

The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
The Mapleton-Castle Hill-Chapman Fire Department cautioned residents in a social media post Thursday that fire trucks would be moving back and forth between the scene and the local pump house.
The three-town department received mutual aid from the Washburn and Presque Isle Fire Departments, Moss said.
