Region 10 Technical High School will celebrate 135 seniors from Midcoast school districts on June 4 at the Freeport Performing Arts Center for the industry skills they have developed throughout their time at the career-focused school.
Here are two notable seniors — Region 10’s student of the year and outstanding senior — that have made positive impacts on their peers.
ELLIOT MORGAN, STUDENT OF THE YEAR
Elliot Morgan has been named student of the year at Region 10 Technical High School, an honor that reflects his exceptional leadership, academic achievement and dedication to both his school and community, according to the school.
A second-year student in Region 10’s EMT program, Morgan has distinguished himself not only through academic excellence but also through his commitment to supporting and mentoring fellow students. The EMT program is traditionally a one-year program, but Morgan advocated for the opportunity to return in a leadership and mentorship role, where he has become a resource for current students preparing for careers in emergency medical services.
Faculty members describe Morgan as someone who truly embodies the mission of career and technical education. Drawing from his own recent experiences in the program, he regularly assists classmates, supports instruction and helps create a positive and encouraging learning environment.
In addition to his mentorship efforts, Morgan has spearheaded an ambitious project to secure an ambulance for the EMT program. His initiative has included contacting local fire departments about potential donations or end-of-service vehicles, speaking with sending schools to build support, presenting before the school board to seek approval for researching grant and funding opportunities, and launching a GiveButter fundraising campaign to support the effort.
Morgan is also a familiar face at Region 10 events, volunteering his time at open houses, information nights and middle school exploratory programs. According to instructors, his response to any event opportunity is often simply, “When should I be there?”
Academically, Morgan continues to excel. He earned honors recognition last year and has maintained honors status again this year while balancing an exceptionally demanding schedule.
Outside of school, Morgan serves his community as a member of both the Durham and West Bath fire departments, where he responds to emergency calls and assists local residents in times of need. His dedication has been so significant that he has occasionally been granted permission to leave school early in order to respond to emergency calls when departments are short staffed.
Morgan is also active in extracurricular and leadership organizations, including National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society and HOSA-Future Health Professionals through Brunswick High School.
SEAN GASTONGUAY, OUTSTANDING SENIOR
Sean Gastonguay has been named an outstanding senior at Region 10 Technical High School in recognition of his exceptional academic achievement, technical ability, leadership and dedication both inside and outside the classroom.
Currently a second-year student in the outdoor power equipment program, Gastonguay has consistently demonstrated a remarkable work ethic and commitment to excellence. Instructors describe him as a straight-A student who has given one 100% effort in every task and project since his first day at Region 10.
One of Gastonguay’s most impressive accomplishments was his recent gold medal at SkillsUSA Maine in Diesel Mechanics. He will compete at SkillsUSA Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia, representing his program, school and state.
Instructors praise Gastonguay not only for his technical skills but also for his character and leadership qualities. He is consistently prepared for class, eager to learn, dependable and willing to assist fellow students in developing their own skills. Gastonguay earned student of the quarter honors during both the first quarter of 2024 and again in 2025 while maintaining excellent attendance and an A+ average.
Gastonguay’s maturity and professionalism have also stood out to faculty members. When concerns arise, he approaches them respectfully and directly, demonstrating strong communication skills and personal responsibility.
Outside the classroom, Gastonguay excels in a wide range of activities. He serves as captain of his school’s swim team, regularly attending practices and demonstrating leadership among his peers. He also enjoys snowmobiling, auto racing and working on a pit crew, combining his passion for mechanics with teamwork and hands-on experience.
In addition to his technical coursework, Gastonguay is enrolled in several advanced-level academic classes through his sending school district as he prepares to pursue further education in the engineering field after graduation.
