Summertime is the best time to enjoy ice cream. Then again, ice cream knows no season. It’s equally good in fall, winter and spring.

But summer does mean that there are far more places to stop, pull over and get yourself a cool treat.

Here are three historical photos that feature ice cream in the 1950s and ’70s.
