Voters in Wells will decide on several races during the municipal and primary election, including the school budget, school district trustee appointments and a number of ordinance approvals.
Here’s everything on the ballot this June.
SCHOOL BUDGET VALIDATION
Voters in both Wells and neighboring Ogunquit will decide whether to approve the Wells-Ogunquit Community School District’s budget.
The budget proposal currently totals $33.4 million, though the district will hold a final budget meeting June 2 that could change the final amount.
That meeting will begin at 5 p.m. at the Ward Gym in the Wells Junior High School.
SCHOOL COMMITTEE
One Wells seat for the Wells-Ogunquit district’s school committee is contested.
Incumbent Chair Jason Vennard is running against newcomer Eileen Conlon.
BOARD OF SELECTMEN
The Wells Board of Selectmen has five positions, with only one on the ballot.
Incumbent Vice Chair James Smith is running against newcomer Phillip Breton.
ARTICLES & ORDINANCES
Wells voters will vote whether to approve both 26 ordinance questions and line-item budget referendums.
The municipal budget questions make up the first 16 questions on the ballot. One notable budget item proposes changing a before- and after-school supervisor position from part-time to full-time.
The proposed municipal budget comes out to $33.57 million, a 9.01% increase from last year.
One article on the ballot will ask voters to approve an ordinance for an official plea to state and federal officials to enact fossil fuel pricing legislation in an effort to combat climate change.
Another ballot question asks voters whether they want to authorize the selectboard to accept a nearly 15-acre parcel of land in exchange for releasing an existing right-of-way to a developer that’s building a subdivision. If approved, a land trust would need a new location for its easement to access over 300 acres of conserved land known as the Perkins Town Commons Conservation.
UNCONTESTED RACES
There are also several open Wells positions that are uncontested.
Deputy Town Clerk Michele Stivaletta-Noble is running for the position of town clerk.
Michael Livingston is seeking the role of Wells Sanitary District trustee.
And three people are seeking the three spots on the Library Board of Trustees: James Purdy and Darcy Lynch are running for reelection, while newcomer Jamie Lombardi is also on the ballot.
