Patty Jo Walton

PORTLAND – Patty Jo Walton, 73, of Portland, died Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at Maine Medical Center following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late William L. Walton.

Patty Jo was born in Portland on Feb. 10, 1953, the daughter of Harold J. Sawyer and Josephine (Colello) Sawyer. A proud Munjoy Hill girl, she graduated from Portland High School in 1971.

She worked at Casco Bank prior to a long career as an office worker at Breggy Oil and later at the Dead River Company.

Patty Jo was a hit wherever she went. Her infectious laugh and boundless energy could turn any ordinary occasion into a memorable event. Never one to let the party end, she would still be going strong even when everybody else was ready to call it a day. Patty Jo had many interests; she was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking, going to the beach, and spending time with friends and family. Even just a short ride to get lunch or an ice cream became an occasion.

Patty Jo was devoted to family. She knew that being together, even when it was difficult, was important and worthwhile. In addition to working and maintaining a home, she would often take (or drag) her husband and children to visit aunts, uncles, and cousins. As an only child, Patty Jo had life-long relationships with many of her cousins and maintained connections with all of the branches of her family.

She was a giving person. As a member of the Portland Female Charitable Society, she loved helping those less fortunate. Her giving did not stop there. When a loved one suffered a loss or needed a ride, she was there. Whatever it took – even hold your hand as you died.

Patty Jo overcame several hardships, losing close friends far before their time. She battled through cancer and two heart attacks and found the strength to smile. Even after the loss of her husband and mother, she never lost her love of life. It was Patty Jo’s love that was unique. It could be felt by all who were fortunate enough to be part of her life, and she will be missed by all.

Patty Jo is survived by her three sons and their families, Justin and wife Daria and their son Philip; William; and Harold and wife Olena and their daughter, Sara. Her loss will be felt by a wide circle of friends and extended family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, June 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Conroy-Tully Walker Funeral Home, 300 Allen Ave., Portland. Prayers will be recited on Thursday, June 18, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with internment to follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.

Arrangements are under the direction of the new Conroy-Tully Walker, Funeral, Cremation, & Gathering Center, 300 Allen Ave., Portland. To view Patty Jo’s memorial page or to share an online condolence, please visit http://www.ConroyTullyWalker.com.
