Kerry K. Norton

SCARBOROUGH – After a long period of declining health, Kerry K. Norton passed away peacefully, early morning of Independence Day, July 4, 2026.

Kerry was an independent person who enjoyed life his way. He was a country boy at heart. His childhood fun at his cousins’ diary farms in Pittsfield was the beginning of his enjoying everything outdoors. He loved to work in his barn and drive his tractor and bulldozer to contour his land.

Kerry was born in Portland, May of 1950 to Kenneth D. Norton and Winnifred (Reynolds) Norton. He grew up in South Portland and graduated from South Portland High School in 1968 where he was a member of that year’s successful football and basketball teams. Upon graduation he joined the Air National Guard, learned to pilot small planes and soon bought his forever home.

Kerry held many jobs including Portland Pipeline, L.L.Bean, real estate agent, and heavy equipment truck driver for H.B. Fleming. Recently, when asked what he did for work his answer was always Real Estate. He was especially proud of those years when he sold houses and built several small developments. As Kerry neared the age of 70, he enjoyed one more house build with his good friend, Ben.

Kerry’s sisters, Kathy and Lynn, thank their husbands, David and Kim (deceased), and the Sobey and Skinner families for their loving support, and the vital role they played in keeping Kerry in the home he cherished so much for as long as possible. He was delighted when visitors arrived with their family dog. It was a special highlight of his day.

Sadly missing Kerry are sisters Kathleen N. Coffin and husband David, Lynn N. Oliver; nephews Jeffrey Coffin and wife Luanne, Jordan Lee and wife Erica, nieces Heather Fox, Jessica Lee; great-nieces and nephews Trevor Coffin and wife, Allie Warner, Jeremy Coffin, Jade Fox, Calvin Fox, Job Fox, Haden Fox, London Rose Lee; cousins Edson Sobey and wife Jenny, Joshua Sobey and wife Jessica, Monica (Sobey) Skinner and husband Tyrone, Nicholas Sobey and wife Masha, and their families. Surviving are his former wife and friend, Francis Tilman; and many cousins living throughout the United States. We all miss his sense of humor, his delight at something well made, and his companionship.

Kerry was predeceased by his parents; a special aunt, Ruth E. Norton; and his loving, helpful friend and brother-in-law, Kim Michael Oliver.

Kerry’s family would like to thank the staff of Seal Rock Healthcare, Saco and Compassus Hospice for their kindness and care in his final weeks.

At his request there be no formal service.
