Rhonda (Hanson) Weaver
HARPSWELL – Rhonda Hanson Weaver, 77, of Harpswell, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Born and raised in the Dover-Foxcroft area, she graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1967, where she helped lead the girls’ basketball team to a state championship. She went on to earn a teaching degree from the University of Maine – as a single mother, raising her first son, Leif, while working part time.
After graduation, Rhonda began teaching in local schools and, through a blind date, met her future husband, Lloyd Weaver. They married in Dover-Foxcroft and moved to Boston, Mass., where their second son, Craig, was born. The family later lived briefly in the Portland area before settling in Ashland for a decade, then Topsham for another 10 years, and finally Cundy’s Harbor, where they built their home near the ocean.
A devoted wife, mother, and teacher, Rhonda was outgoing and warm, with deep ties to friends and a large family. She taught elementary school for over 25 years, touching countless young lives. Rhonda loved music, and enjoyed going to see her favorite artists in concert over the years, including Bob Dylan, James Taylor, BB King, and Ray Charles. A lifelong artist and crafter, she worked in visual art, ceramics, fabric, and sculpture, and wrote and self-published children’s books. She also loved the outdoors – hiking, biking, skiing, sailing, kayaking, and canoeing, and cherished time at her family’s camp on Sebec Lake and by the ocean in Harpswell.
Rhonda is survived by her husband, Lloyd, of Harpswell; her son, Craig and daughter-in-law Zoe, of Portland, her daughter-in-law, Becky of Belfast; her brothers Skip and Tim Hanson; and her beloved grandsons Isaac and Asa.
She was predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Jean Hanson; and her son, Leif.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, July 19 at Maine Audubon at Gilsland Farm, 1 to 4 p.m., with remarks and music beginning at 2 p.m.
Donations may be made in her name to
