Daniel Joseph Casale

PORTLAND – Daniel Joseph “Danny” Casale, 66, passed away peacefully of natural causes on July 15, 2026, at an assisted living facility in Portland, Maine.

Born in Portland on Feb. 19, 1961, he was the youngest of five children of Daniel Joseph Casale and Ellen M. (Peterson) Casale. A lifelong Portlander, Daniel attended Cathedral Grammar School and Jack Junior High and graduated from Portland High School with the Class of 1979. He worked at Crosby Laughlin and other local jobs before injuries made it difficult for him to continue working.

Daniel will be remembered for the things that brought him joy from an early age: playing pool, watching WWF wrestling, and playing baseball and basketball. Learning to play the drums sparked his lifelong love of all music. Rock ’n’ roll eventually became his favorite, and he treasured the chance to see legendary performers including the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith.

He especially loved the excitement of high school basketball tournaments and attended games at the Portland Exposition Building, the Augusta Civic Center, and other venues whenever he could. He cherished the time he spent with his loving wife of 22 years, his stepson, and the many pets who were part of his life, especially Boston, named after his favorite baseball team. He also enjoyed riding on his motorcycle whenever he could.

Anyone who had the chance to know Danny knew he was deeply loved by his family and friends. He left a lasting impression on those around him, and the memories shared with him will continue to bring comfort, smiles, and a lasting sense of connection.

Daniel was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen Casale; his parents; his brother, Joseph D. Casale, his sister-in-law, Sabrina Casale; loving friend, Denise Talbot; his paternal grandparents, Guiseppe Casale and Carmela (Nappi) Casale, his maternal grandparents, Carl Peterson and Emily Erickson; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is lovingly survived by his sisters, Carol Casale and Pamela Hanna and her husband, Roy, his brother, Carl “Denny” Casale; his stepson, Samuel Johnson, and his wife, Sarah; and many nieces and nephews who will remember him with affection.

Visiting hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, at A.T. Hutchins Funeral Home, 660 Brighton Ave., Portland. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, at St. Peter’s Church, Federal Street, Portland.
