PORTLAND — An Aug. 20 meeting in Rines Auditorium at the Portland Public Library will seek public opinion on a creating a citywide minimum wage.

The Minimum Wage Advisory Committee established in the spring by Mayor Michael Brennan is considering a $9.50-an-hour minimum wage starting on Jan. 1, 2015.

Brennan hopes to have an ordinance ready for City Council discussion by mid-September and has suggested the citywide minimum wage be increased to $10.68 per hour by Jan. 1, 2017 and indexed to inflation in ensuing years. The current minimum wage is the state-mandated $7.50 per hour.

The library is at 5 Monument Square. The two-hour meeting begins at 5 p.m.
