FIGURE SKATING
EASTERN SECTIONAL: Morgan Sewall, a sophomore at Scarborough High, placed fifth of 12 competitors in the junior ladies short program at the Eastern Sectional in Hyannis, Mass.
A planned triple salchow in combination became a double for Sewall, 15, whose score of 40.70 points leading into Sunday’s free skate put her behind leader Madison Vinci (47.30) of Washington, D.C., and three other skaters, including fourth-place Brianna Laxson (45.28), also of Washington.
The top four competitors advance to the national championships in Nebraska in January.
