Westbrook Public Safety workers were forced to shut off water in an office building after the cold weather apparently caused a pipe to burst in the former Sebago Moc building off Lincoln Street Sunday morning.
Sgt. Mike Sanphy of Westbrook police said police were notified of the incident by Westbrook Fire Department, which made a forced entry through a window, to shutoff a sprinkler system. Sanphy said glass in the window apparently shattered after the sash fell.
Sanphy believed the water leak occurred on the upper floor of the two-story brick building.
The Natioinal Weather Service reported the wind chill factor as 5 degrees at 11 a.m. in Westbrook. “The cold snapped one of the pipes,” a man from a maintenance service surmised while waiting outside to enter the building.
The man said the building is owned by Blue Star Corporation. An estimate of damage was unavailable.
