Regular town office hours are Monday, 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; and Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. It is closed for lunch Monday-Friday from noon-1 p.m.

Selectmen meet Tuesday, March 12 and Tuesday, March 26, at 6: 30 p.m., at the Durham Town Office. The codes enforcement officer is available Wednesday, March 6, from 5-7 p.m. The Planning Board meets Wednesday, March 6, at 7 p.m., at the town office.

Public works, cable TV?on tap for meeting

A public information meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 11, at 6:30 p.m., at the Durham Community School Gym. To be discussed are the Public Work Feasibility Study findings, what residents want from their local cable TV; and ordinance amendments. For more information, call 353-2561.

Durham student ?named Presidential Scholars candidate

Ben Tindall, a graduating senior at Merriconeag Waldorf High School, has been named one of more than 3,000 candidates in the 2013 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The candidates were selected from nearly 3.4 million students expected to graduate from U.S. high schools in the year 2013.

He is the son of Jeffrey Tindall and Susan Sonntag of Durham.

Inclusion in the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, now in its 49th year, is one of the highest honors bestowed upon graduating high school seniors. Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in community and school activities.

The Commission on Presidential Scholars, a group of up to 32 eminent citizens appointed by the president, will make final selection of the scholars.

Girl Scouts set?cookie booth March 9

Girl Scout Troop 3548 of Durham will be holding a cookie booth sale on Saturday, March 9, at the Durham Get ‘n Go from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.. Customers can stock up on their favorite Girl Scout cookies and support the local troop.

Youth Baseball registration open

Registration for Durham Youth Baseball is now open through April 5. The program is for ages 4-13 (as of April 30) in Durham, Freeport and Pownal. Signups and payment can be made on the website at www.durhambaseball.com, or print out a form for in-person signups will be held on Wednesday, March 20 and Wednesday, April 3, at 6:30 p.m. at the Durham Community School Discovery Room.

Hand-to-hand?food drive March 9

On Saturday, March 9, on Main Street in Freeport, the line forms at the First Parish Church across from the Gap at 9:45 a.m. Participants are urged to join in with a bag of non-perishable food, personal care items or cleaning supplies. The line snakes down Main Street to the Freeport Community Services food pantry. Food also may be dropped off at in the lobbies of the Durham Community School, Mast Landing School or Morse Street School ahead of time.

Dinner and New Wine

The North Pownal United Methodist Church, 851 Lawrence Road, Pownal, is sponsoring a community supper Saturday, March 10, at 5 p.m., or which a donation will be accepted, with a concert by New Wine to follow. Admission is free. A free-will offering will be taken.

New Wine is a Christian band. Members include Mario Blais, bass guitar/vocals; David Chick, electric guitar/vocals; Roger Cusson, drums;Vickie O’Brien, acoustic guitar/vocals; Dick Waters, piano/guitar/vocals; Judy Cusson, sound engineering.

Concert to honor ?Bee Douglas

Singer-songwriter Joe Crookston will perform an intergenerational community concert at the Durham Friends Meeting House Saturday, March 22, at 7 p.m., in a tribute to Bee Douglas, who died last June at 103 years old. She was the oldest Durham Friend.

PTA seeking auction donations

The Durham PTA’s fourth annual auction is April 27. The PTA uses the money raised to provide field trips, enrichment programs and many teacher-requested educational tools for students.

Food pantry

The Lisbon Area Christian Outreach’s food pantry and clothing bank hours are: Wednesday: 6 p.m.-8 p.m., Thursday: 10 a.m. to noon and Saturday: 8 a.m.-10 a.m. LACO serves the communities of Bowdoin, Durham and Lisbon. The website is www.lacopantry.org.

The physical address for food and clothing is the Marion T. Morse Community Center, enter from the Berry Avenue side behind the Lisbon United Methodist Church. The clothing bank cannot accept furniture, appliances, etc., as they do not have the room to store them. For more, call Debbie at 240-1637.

Community center for rent
