People parking in certain public parking lots in downtown Westbrook could get more time to leave there cars there, if the City Council decides to adopt changes recommended by the Downtown Parking Committee.
The committee has recommended changing the time limit on parking spaces in the municipal lots on the Bridge Street Spur and between Bank of America and TD Banknorth from one hour to two hours.
It also recommended implementing 30-minute parking limits to unregulated spaces in front of Bank of America and Freaky Bean coffee shop on Main Street, and establishing two-hour time limits for on-street parking on the west side of Ash Street and in the municipal lot next to Hub Furniture.
The committee took suggestions for changes to downtown parking from members of the public at a meeting on Feb. 29. The committee is made up of city officials, city councilors, business owners and residents.
On Monday, the Economic Development Committee voted unanimously to refer the changes to the City Council.
