‘Old Peabody Pew’
This year’s traditional production of “The Old Peabody Pew” has been set for 7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, in the Tory Hill Church, intersection of routes 112 and 202, Buxton.
The historic church was the original setting for the play, a romance written by Kate Douglas Wiggin. The Dorcas Society, a charitable group founded by Wiggin, who spent summers in nearby Hollis and attended the historic church, produces the play annually.
Admission is $5; $2.50, children under 12.
Snow date for the performance is Dec. 9.
Turkey trot
The 2-mile turkey trot race is set for 10 a.m. Saturday on the Haines Meadow Road.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. on race day in the cafeteria at the Hanson Elementary School in Buxton Center. The entry fee is a donation of a non-perishable food item for the food pantry.
Prizes include frozen turkeys to the first boy and girl at each grade level, Grade K-8 and the first male/female for high school, adult and teacher. Other prizes will be drawn randomly.
The event is a family affair. Students under 16 need to be accompanied by an adult at the race site and students Grade 2 or lower need to have an adult participate with them in the race.
