BEHS students honor vets
The Bonny Eagle High School student council sponsored a ceremony attended by students, faculty and staff Nov. 10 to honor U.S. veterans.
The student council, Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps and the Civil Air Patrol conducted the ceremony. Student council Vice President Troy Holihan opened the ceremony, Civil Air Patrol presented the colors and the chorus sang the national anthem.
Student council President Kim Dubois and a member of the JROTC spoke about the meaning of Veterans Day and projects that each group is sponsoring. The student council will be selling yellow ribbons in hopes of sponsoring two veterans to visit the war memorial in Washington, D.C., next spring. Jake Bradway, Dylan Lyons and Thomas Hinkley and Uriah Eilinger of JROTC performed a flag-folding ceremony and the high school band played “America the Beautiful.”
Student Jeremy Harmon, on behalf of the Civil Air Patrol, placed a wreath at the Vietnam Memorial near the entrance of the high school. Cameron Morrisette and Katey Nelligan played “Taps.”
Thanksgiving dinner donations sought
Joann Groder said the Pythian Sisters Narragansett Temple 111 is seeking donations for its free Thanksgiving dinner. The meal will be served noon to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27, in the group’s headquarters on Route 22 in Buxton Center.
The dinner, the fourth annual, is free to all. Last year, the sisters served 102 dinners and delivered 12 others to shut-ins. Groder said students at Day One, a residence and rehab program in Hollis for youth, again have volunteered to help.
Groder said 15 turkeys are needed in addition to stuffing mix, gravy, cranberry sauce, onion, turnips and pies. She said potatoes and squash are already in hand.
To donate or for more information, call Groder at 929-8806.
