Craig’s List fraud

On Monday, June 9, at 1:13 p.m., police responded to a residence on Gorham Road for a report of a fraudulent transaction. According to police, the complainant had attempted to purchase a 2003 Suzuki GSXR 740 motorcycle he had seen advertised on Craig’s List by sending $2,900 through Moneygram International to the purported seller. The complainant reported that he never received the motorcycle and discovered upon investigation that the invoice sent to him was fraudulent. The case remains under investigation.

Food fraud

On Monday, June 9, at approximately 7:24 p.m., police responded to Shaw’s on Payne Road for a report of a shoplifter. According to police, a customer had attempted to leave the store pushing a grocery cart filled with approximately $200 worth of groceries, which she had not paid for. Police said when they attempted to arrest her, the woman became argumentative and uncooperative, pulling her arms away and resisting officers’ attempts to restrain her. Police also said she resisted being put in a cruiser and kicked one officer in the shin. Louise J. Dorazio, 41, of 156 Bridgton Road, Westbrook, was charged with theft by unauthorized taking/transfer, assault on an officer and refusal to submit to arrest.

Stop and search

On Monday, June 9, at about 11 a.m., a police officer pulled over a pickup truck on County Road carrying a go-cart that appeared to be in danger of falling from the bed. The driver and passenger consented to a search. Found with crack cocaine and marijuana, the passenger, Thomas Mulkern, 49, of 70 Forest Ave., Portland, was charged with unlawful possession of a scheduled drug, police said.

Collision

On Saturday, June 14, at about 7:09 a.m., police and the fire department responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Payne and Milliken roads. According to police, a 2001 Jeep was southbound on Route 1 and was turning left into the access road for the Maine Veterans Home when it was struck by another vehicle that was traveling north and ran a red light. The Jeep sustained $15,000 damage and the other vehicle sustained $6,000 damage. The occupants were treated for unspecified injuries. No criminal charges are anticipated.
