100th birthday for Louise Campbell

Louise Robichaud Campbell celebrated her 100th birthday Aug. 17.

Many friends and relatives helped her celebrate the occasion at two open houses held at her home. Campbell was brought up at 9 Ash St. and was employed at the Star Theater in Westbrook for more than 20 years.

Campbell is an avid reader. She also has enjoyed playing the piano, playing cards, and hooking rugs. She was married to George “Percy” Campbell, who died in 1986, for 34 years.

GOP meeting Sept. 9

The Westbrook Republican City Committee invites all Westbrook Republicans to attend the next meeting on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the training room on the first floor of the Public Safety Building with refreshments and social time. The meeting begins at 7 p.m.

The committee is seeking to fill the remaining slots for the November municipal election. Those interested in being a candidate should let the committee know and plan to attend the meeting.

Remembering Katrina

Brenda Orach, social ministry chair at Trinity Lutheran in Westbrook, said Lutherans are sponsoring a fundraiser to help missionary work connected with the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.

Orach said a special event is scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8, at the First Lutheran Church, 132 Auburn St., Portland. The event will be a talk and presentation of prior mission work, a special premiere of a new song, “Katrina” composed by Trinity Lutheran member John Muthyala, a tribute in memory of the devastation caused by Katrina and work that is still needed. The song “Katrina” is on a CD available for $10. All of the proceeds will go to fund a third mission trip to Slidell, La.

Riverbank art festival

Westbrook’s River Bank Art Festival will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Riverbank Park.

The following day will be a rain date.

Class of 1950 reunion

The Westbrook High School Class of 1950 celebrated a mini-reunion on Aug. 17 at Keeley the Katerer on Warren Avenue.

Along with organizing, Bill Randall notified classmates of the reunion and was the master of ceremonies.

Harriet (LeClair) Caron and Jeanne (Guimond) Landry greeted classmates and handed out name tags. Bill O’Gara held a moment of silence in remembrance of classmates who had died since the reunion last year: Edward W. Clark, Pauline (LeClerc) Pickerell, Clyde Esty and Donald Lemay.

Ruth (Johnson) Webster offered grace before the luncheon.
