Hanson students read, sing
Students in the multi-age class at the Hanson School in Buxton recently performed a Reader’s Theater and sang a song written by their principal.
The story they read was “Cocoa Ice” by Diana Applebaum and written in Reader’s Theater form by local author Toni Buzzeo. It’s a story about Maine ice harvesting in the 1870s. Ice from Maine rivers was carried by schooners to Santo Domingo to be traded for cocoa and coffee beans. This meant that children in Santo Domingo and children in Maine could eat chocolate ices on lazy afternoons, just as they do in this story.
The students also sang a song, “Friendship Around the World,” which was written and composed by Principal Don Gnecco.
Cutline (0833) – Singing in the Readers Theater at Hanson School are, from left, Allison Fitzpatrick, Emily Mahony, Andrew Price, Matthew Emery, Sarah Walker, and Nadhia Linteau.
