Faiman, Gray to wed

Arlene and Lester Faiman of Hamden, Conn., have announced the engagement of their daughter, Karen Beth Faiman, to Eric D. Gray, son of Daniel and Brenda Gray of Westbrook. He is the grandson of Marion Fysh and the late Leroy Fysh and the late Arthur and Marcia Gray.

He a mechanical engineer at Pratt and Whitney in East Hartford. He earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Renesselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Karen Beth Faiman is the granddaughter of Gertrude Kahn and the late Louis Kahn and the late Irving and Frieda Faiman. The bride-to-be is an assistant principal in the Hartford public schools. She received an master’s degree in administration from the University of Connecticut.

After first asking permission from her parents weeks before, Gray proposed while visiting Gertrude Kahn, an important person in the life of the bride-to-be.

A wedding will be in March.

Goell on Warren stage

Performer Julie Goell will present “Carmen: the Mopera,” at 7 p.m. on Friday at Warren Memorial Library, 479 Main St.

Wendy Hysko, library director, said the comedy extravaganza is part of the “Women in the Performing Arts” series. The series is sponsored by the Cornelia Warren Community Association and is part of the Westbrook Art Walk.

Admission is free.

Goell is a 1974 graduate of Emerson College in Boston and completed the University of Southern Maine School of Music. She acted in “Ghetto” on Broadway and has performed in Italy. She has directed several theater productions in New York and she has taught at Boston University, University of Connecticut and Colby College.

Those attending will have an opportunity to meet Goell following the performance. For more information or reservations, call the library at 854-5891.

Pedneault leads money forum

A Westbrook resident, George Pedneault, will present a money management forum in two sessions at Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St. Pedneault will speak at 10 a.m. on Saturdays, Oct. 25, and Nov. 1.

Don a costume

Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St., will host a haunted tour of the library for all ages 4-6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30.

Marian Peterson, assistant library director, said the tour features a special section for young goblins. She encouraged wearing costumes and said treat bags would be shared.

Shepard Air Force honor grad

Air Force Airman Joseph C. Shepard has graduated with honors from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

He is the son of Shari Shepard of Bernadette Street, Westbrook, and grandson of Yvette Deschanes of Ricker Park, Portland. Shepard graduated from Westbrook High School in 2002 and received a bachelor’s degree in 2006 from the University of Maine.

Early bird sale

Four artists and a poet are sponsoring the Early Bird Holiday Sale on Saturday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Mary Brooking’s studio, 59 Mechanic St. Items available include jewelry, pottery, clocks, poetry books, handbags and small quilts. Brooking said 10 percent of note and holiday card sales would benefit a charity, and the Moonpie Press animal poetry anthology entirely benefits the Maine State Society for the Protection of Animals.
