Joyce, Aube back after hospital stays
School Committee member Suzanne Joyce and City Councilor Dorothy Aube are both back at their posts this week after brief hospital stays.
Last Friday, Joyce said, she was attending her son’s high school football game in Wells, Westbrook versus Wells, in Wells, when she felt heart palpitations. This had happened about four years ago, she said, and it went away on its own, so she waited for 40 minutes before calling an ambulance.
“I thought I’d come out of it, but I didn’t,” she said.
She went to Southern Maine Medical Center in Biddeford, where she was treated and released. It was not a heart attack, she said, just a fast heartbeat that needed to be corrected.
Joyce said she was sorry to miss part of her son’s game, but she expects to be back at her position as School Committee member at this week’s meeting, which takes place on Wednesday, after the American Journal’s deadline.
“I’m still here to drive (superintendent) Marc Gousse and (committee chairman) Ed Symbol crazy,” she joked.
Meanwhile, Aube returned to the City Council chamber on Monday after being away for the past few weeks recovering from gallstone surgery. Aube made no comment upon returning, but smiled and waved as her fellow councilors applauded her at the beginning of the meeting.
