Fifth-graders Carlos Rodriguez, in red, and Caleb Mailly, in brown, run through a banner made by their classmates, congratulating them for running a total of 100 miles this year during recess at the Congin School. This is the second year for the Congin and Canal schools’ walking program, which encourages students to spend their recess exercising. According to guidance counselor Joe Driscoll, altogether students from both schools walked 3,300 miles this year – “enough to get from Westbrook to Los Angeles and then some,” he said. The celebration of Rodriguez and Mailly’s accomplishment, which came Monday, continued Wednesday, which was dubbed “Carlos and Caleb Day” at Congin School.
