WESTBROOK – A woman who is accused of driving her car into four vehicles, including a parked police cruiser on Westbrook’s Main Street, was arraigned Wednesday on eight charges, including operating under the influence and driving to endanger.
Kelly Ann Brennan, 36, a transient from Portland, was also charged with, refusing to submit to arrest, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, refusal to identify herself, leaving the scene of an accident, refusing to stop for a police officer and violating bail conditions.
A caller notified police around 4:20 p.m. Monday saying a van was being driven erratically near the intersection of Main and Speirs streets.
Vehicle debris littered Main Street after Brennan’s driving escapades came to a halt around 4:30 p.m. According to police, Brennan was driving a 2001 Honda Odyssey minivan west on Main Street and hit multiple signs and four cars, including a parked police cruiser.
Police said she “refused to stop, sideswiped a parked Westbrook police cruiser and bypassed a construction zone on Main Street by driving down the sidewalk in front of Riverbank Park, where she struck several poles and sheared off the van’s passenger side door. Brennan struck a third vehicle and disabled her van near the intersection of Main and Spring street.”
Both van airbags had deployed and the front of the vehicle was also smashed in. The police cruiser was also severely damaged. An adult passenger in the van complained of minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Brennan was taken to the Cumberland County Jail in Portland, where she is being held without bail. Details on her arraignment were not available by the American Journal deadline on Wednesday.
