Gorham is on track for a decrease in the number of highway crashes this year, if the present rate of 1.35 accidents per day continues through the end of December.
Lt. Chris Sanborn of Gorham Police Department said Wednesday Gorham has had 405 accidents so far for the 298 days through Oct. 25 this year. The town recorded 650 highway accidents last year, averaging 1.78 accidents each day.
If the present rate this year continues through the end of December, Gorham would have 90 more accidents, totaling 495, which would be a drop of 155 or a 23.8 percent decrease for the year.
Sanborn said the town could be likely down 50 accidents this year. However, he said the final tally would likely be close to last year’s, depending on weather conditions between now and the end of December.
