Troop 73 keeps promise to help
In conjunction with the Gorham Police Department and Gorham-Westbrook Triad, members of Boy Scout Troop 73 in Gorham and their parents recently raked leaves for senior citizens in Patio Mobile Home Park off Libby Avenue in Gorham.
Tom Bahun, assistant scoutmaster, said, “Along with giving service, our troop learned to work together with others to do something that’s good for their community.”
Triad is a coalition of senior citizens, police and community service providers to aid senior citizens and to promote safety and well being.
Woman’s club meeting
Mary Brumet, of Back in Motion, will speak about physical therapy when Gorham Woman’s Club meets on Thursday, Nov. 8, in the fellowship hall at First Parish Congregational Church, Church St.
Preceding the program and business meeting, refreshments will be served at 12:30 p.m.
Members are asked to take completed items for its current project, Newborns In Need. For more information, call 839-6375.
Library book sale
The North Gorham Public Library will hold its annual fall book sale from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, in the community room of the adjacent fire station, corner of North Gorham and Standish Neck roads.
“A wide section of nearly new fiction and non-fiction books, as well as back issues of the National Geographic, will be for sale by donation,” said Library director Kathy Corbett.
Also the North Gorham UCC Guild will have baked goods for sale. For more information, call 892-2575.
Historical society reminder
Gorham Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, in the Gorham Savings Bank Operations Center on Gray Road (Route 202).
Penny Loura of Gorham will speak about medicine of the Civil War era.

According to the Gorham Historical Society’s chronology, the first meeting of the township’s proprietors was held on Nov. 24, 1741.
The town was first known as Narragansett No. 7, a land grant by the General Court of Massachusetts.
