Gorham Public Works Director Robert Burns announced some good news Wednesday – the town’s holiday lights will soon be functional.

An electrician has installed 25 light displays on utility poles in Gorham Village and another five in Little Falls. Burns said that more than half had been wired by mid-week, and he expected Central Maine Power to turn on a number of them by end of this week.

This year marks the first time Gorham will have holiday light displays. The town had to work out an agreement with Central Maine Power and FairPoint Communications for permission to utilize the poles.

Some town officials were jittery about whether the displays would be lighted in time for the holidays this year.

“Hopefully, we’ll be in good shape for Christmas,” Burns said.
