I was reading the paper, and was a little disappointed not to see Saccarappa on the list of cemeteries slated for flag placement. I’m not writing to question anyone, or to ask why. I have the highest regards for all the veterans organizations here in Westbrook.

There are relatives on my wife’s side buried there who served their country when they were needed. We were visiting them the other day, and I took a walk around. It’s like walking through history.

I stopped at John Warren’s grave. He was a private in the Revolutionary War who served with Brackett’s Company 31st Massachusetts Regiment. I saw a Charles Quinby, who served in the War of 1812. I saw Marshall H. Quinby, who was in the Civil War 13th Maine Regiment. He died at Ship Island, Miss. Also, just to name a few, were Marshall H. Merrill, Spanish American War; Robert A. Swett, World War I; and Whitefield E. Shaw, World War II.

We owe a lot to all our veterans, past and present. So I will finish by saying, “thanks to all.”
