I am writing to express my concern about the proposed asphalt plant and quarry on Mosher Road in Gorham.
I urge the Gorham Planning Board and Town Council to plan for the future of Gorham. The comprehensive plan for the town has not been updated in nearly 14 years. In that time, the goals set forth and the planning to meet those goals seem to have lost sight of one another. I urge the planning board and town council to review the comprehensive plan and update the plan before additional approvals are taken which cannot be changed in the future.
Town officials are charged with a responsibility to its residents. Clearly, the proposed development on Mosher Road is not clean development. The applicant has not provided nor has the planning board requested a reclamation plan for this 75-year project. Therefore, I urge the town officials to scrutinize this proposal as though it were going to be their neighbor – and reject this proposal.
The proposed use will devalue the town as a whole. The corridor into Gorham on Route 25 is an eyesore as it stands. This is not at all the anticipated path I expected when I came to call Gorham home.
I urge the officials to plan for the future of Gorham and deny this proposal for the good of the town and its residents.
