Walker library’s Peterson retires

Marian Peterson, deputy director and adult services librarian at Walker Memorial Library has retired. Her last day on duty was Saturday, June 11.

The library hosted a party in her honor on June 21.

Karen Valley, Walker Memorial Library director, wrote in a letter posted on the library’s website to library members and visitors: “On behalf of the staff, library board, volunteers and City of Westbrook, Maine, I wish Marian Peterson, our deputy director and head of Adult Services, years of happiness and good health in her retirement! During the four years, she has worked here at Walker Memorial Library she has been a leader and a guide to a better library for our community. Her thoughtfulness, compassion and dedication have made a huge positive difference in the lives of so many people she has touched.

Marian will be remembered for the wisdom and knowledge she’s willingly shared and the level of professionalism she’s demonstrated in everything she does, and especially for the joy and good humor she conveyed throughout her tenure here. She will be missed!”

The Westbrook High School class of 1962 is planning its 50th reunion for Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Elks Club in Portland.

Harmon on

dean’s list

Nicholas Harmon has been named to the dean’s list for the spring term in the School of Engineering at Tufts University. Harmon, Westbrook High School class valedictorian in 2010, is the son of Mark and Odilia Harmon.

Boucher to speak

at library

Nancy Boucher of Westbrook, author of “Replanting Lives Uprooted by Mental Illness,” will speak at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, in “The Author Speaks” series at Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St.

Boucher will present a program about mental illness. Boucher has a bachelor of arts degree in sociology from the University of Maine, and

master’s in special education at the University of Southern Maine. She has 24 years of teaching experience in special education as a behavioral strategist.
