Gorham Police said Friday a prank has closed Gorham High School, 41 Morrill Ave.
Sgt. Dan Young said at 8:15 a.m. that kids had piled snow in front of doors at the school and that the snow is being cleared away. Young said police are investigating because the incident closed a public building.
It is uncertain whether charges would be filed.
Gorham Superintendent Ted Sharp said Friday the snow was compacted in a way to make it very difficult to get the school doors open. “They did it all with shovels,” Sharp said.
Sharp said video cameras show that several people were involved but the pranksters haven’t been identified. “My guess is over time information will surface that will help us to figure out who did it,” Sharp said.
Sharp said the building wasn’t damaged. Losing a day of school is a serious matter, Sharp said.
The Gorham School Department Web site said staff has been re-admitted into the building there wouldn’t be school at the high school but all other Gorham schools were open as usual. The Web site didn’t disclose the reason for the high school being closed.
