Thespians place 5th
Westbrook High School’s Sock ‘n Buskin Theatre Group came in fifth place out of nine at the statewide one-act festival held at Camden Hills Regional High School on March 21 and 22.
The Westbrook students were invited to the state competition after coming in first place at the regional competition earlier in March for their production of “The Zen Substitute,” by James Brandon and Tamako Niwa.
The same three students – junior Matthew Rairdon, senior Leah Douglass and sophomore Nate Gowen – who were named all-cast members at the regional competition were named to the all-state cast. In addition, sophomores Alex Day and Tsiyon Hailu were awarded for their use of live sound.
The 13 students who attended the state competition in Camden also participated in workshops for acting, directing and lighting.
“It was a very fun event for them,” said Rick Solomon, who directed the play. “They did a great job.”
Falmouth was awarded first place at the state competition.
