The Westbrook Police Department has received $375,000 in federal funding for two additional officers to serve for three years with the department.

The money was granted as part of an agreement that the city would pay the two, full-time officers for a fourth year of service.

The funding comes from the Hiring Recovery Program, run by the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) in the U.S. Department of Justice.

After the officers have served four years, the city is under no obligation to maintain the positions in the department. City Administrator Jerre Bryant said he is still waiting on the details regarding when the officers will be hired and start working for the city.
