The Foreside Co., a once-prominent marketer of imported home furnishings and dacor, based in Gorham, has been shut down and its inventory will be auctioned next week.

Keenan Auction Co. is handling the sale of the contents of both the Gorham home office and warehouse, along with inventories at retail store locations in Camden and Portland’s Old Port. The company marketed its goods through a catalog, Web site and retail stores.

“A finance company has possession of the inventory and office equipment and warehouse equipment,” Steve Keenan, personal property division manager and auctioneer at Keenan, said Tuesday.

He identified the financial company as Keltic Financial of Tarrytown, N.Y.

A notice signed by a deputy sheriff posted on a door of The Foreside Co. headquarters in Gorham Tuesday read: “No Trespassing. Possession of this building, and personal property therein has been taken by Keltic Financial Partners … Entry without permission may result in arrest.”

Company founders are Mark E. Woodsum, chief executive officer, and Claire H. Woodsum, president. They did not return messages left Tuesday at their home telephone. Store and office telephones were not in service.

The Gorham assessor’s department Web site lists the owner of the building as Foreside Management Co., LLC. The 14.7-acre property is located, according to tax records, at 34 Hutcherson Drive in the Gorham Industrial Park. The assessed value is $4.87 million.

Sealed bids will be accepted up to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, for new inventory, store fixtures and equipment in retail locations at 235 Commercial St. in Portland and at 6 Main St. in Camden; and new inventory in the Foreside Co. warehouse on Hutcherson Drive.

A live auction is set for 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, to sell office furniture, office and warehouse equipment and sample inventory at The Foreside Co. office building on Hutcherson Drive.
