After watching the Westbrook Zoning Board of Appeals meeting Aug. 6, I want people to know how this board works.
Philip Walter from Church Street asked them to allow him to keep a fourth unit in his building. Apparently, Diana Brown, assistant code officer, felt it was not in the right zone to allow this. With the high cost of running a house plus taxes, this would have really helped this gentleman. Of course, the Zoning Board of Appeals rejected his request.
Then, here comes Jason Snyder with his Stroudwater Street development. Everyone knows this will pass because it means more money for the city to spend. It also requires the city to change the zoning from business-professional to contract zone. Also the comprehensive plan must be changed. I’m sure these changes will be made to the point of letting him do anything he wants.
So, let’s be fair and do something to help one of our own citizens. This man deserves at least the same consideration as a developer. By the way, I don’t know Mr. Walter, but let’s face it, fair is fair. Why should a developer come into town and get treated better than our own citizens and taxpayers?
