Gammon earns honors
Alex Gammon, a freshman at Riverview High School in Sarasota, Fla., was recently recognized for high achievements during the fourth annual International Baccalaureate Awards ceremony.
Gammon, 14, was recognized in the category of “Academic Awards, GPA, Freshmen.”
He is the son of Westbrook born and raised Craig Gammon and his wife, Tricia Gammon, of Sarasota, Fla. Craig said he’s lived 28 years in Sarasota.
Alex’s paternal grandparents are Malcolm and Annette Gammon of Windham and Robert and Maureen Calnan of Brownfield (formerly of Westbrook). Maternal grandparents are Charles and Vesta Wendorff of Lake Placid, Fla.
Free garden tips night
A program called “Agriculture Night” will offer gardening tips at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, at Highland Lake Grange, corner of Route 302 and Hardy Road in Westbrook.
The free event will feature speakers Dave and Jeanne Burnham, directors of the Maine State Grange Agricultural Committee, along with Amy Witt, a horticulturist with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension Office of Cumberland County.

Mason-Osann memorial scholarship
A concert to benefit the Ann Mason-Osann Memorial Scholarship will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, in the auditorium at Westbrook High School.
Groups performing will include chamber singers from both Gorham and Westbrook high schools, the Gorham First Parish Church Choir and Musica de Filia.
Mason-Osann, who died from cancer a few years ago, was a music teacher and a director of the First Parish choir.
The event includes a silent auction and bake sale. Admission is free and donations will be accepted.
On dean’s list
Lacy Dugas has made the dean’s list for the first semester at the University of Maine at Farmington, where she is working toward a degree in elementary education.
She is the daughter of Eric and Junie Dugas.
Dugas is currently broadening her horizons and life experience while studying for a semester in New Zealand at the University of Waikato.
