The Westbrook Republican City Committee is looking for people from Ward 3 interested in serving on the School Committee.

A replacement is needed to fill the seat of Jack Gorsuch, who resigned last week. Gorsuch, 88, said he “just got a little worn out.” Gorsuch was elected in November 2005. His term expires in December 2009.

The Westbrook Republican City Committee is holding a meeting on March 2 at 7 p.m. to decide on a candidate or candidates for the position. School Committee members will then decide on who they would like to serve on the board.

Greg Smith, School Committee chairman, said he would “like to have that person installed as quickly as possible,” especially because budget season is approaching, and Gorsuch was a member of the finance committee.

“I just want to thank Jack for stepping up and serving the residents of Ward 3,” said Smith, who added that he was looking forward to meeting the candidates and “having one of those folks coming on board and working with them.”

Any Republicans from Ward 3 interested in serving on the School Committee can contact Martha Day by calling 939-3427 or sending an e-mail to [email protected].
