The Bonny Eagle boys’ indoor track team won seven different events Saturday, but still came up short against Deering. The Rams racked up 119 points and the Scots finished with 91. Noble was third with 33 and Westbrook finished fourth with 30 points.

The Scots got some points right away in the junior shot put. Ryan Lambert won the event with a throw of 33-10 1/4. His teammate Cam Eastman was third. The Rams also picked up several points with a second and fourth place finish. Westbrook’s Joel Chadbourne took the senior shot put with a 46-foot throw. Deering took another runner up finish to gather some more points.

In the high jump, the trend continued for Deering with a second and third place finish. They weren’t winning, but they were piling up points. Noble’s Pierome Sar won the high jump. Nick Winslow was fourth for the Scots.

Murphy Doughty took the mile in 4:52.60 to score another six points for the Scots. The Rams were second, third and fourth in the race. After four events, Deering still had not won any events, but led the meet with 27 points. Bonny Eagle was second with 21, followed by Westbrook with 10 and Noble with six.

The Scots grabbed the top two spots in the junior hurdles. Joey Collins won the race in seven seconds flat. James McDevitt was second. The Scots briefly held the lead after that race thanks to a Deering third-place finish.

The lead was short-lived; however, as the size of the Deering team was just too much for the Scots.

The Rams claimed four of the top five spots in the senior hurdles with Jamie Ruginski’s second place finish the only points Bonny Eagle could muster. Deering suddenly held a seven-point edge over the Scots.

In the junior 40-yard dash, Noble’s Cody Sorrell was the winner with Eastman in second. Deering once again failed to win the event but still managed to score more points to pad its lead. The Rams finally got their first win of the day in the senior 40, where they finished first and third. Justin Denney was second for Bonny Eagle. After the 40s, the Rams had opened their lead a bit with 54 points. Bonny Eagle was still in second with 44 followed by Noble with 15 and Westbrook with 12.

Deering racked up 10 points in the open 300 despite not winning the race. Their runners finished second through fifth behind Collins of Bonny Eagle. In the junior 200, the Knights picked up big points but it was Bonny Eagle who won the race. Eastman won it with a time of 26.3 seconds. The size of the Deering team showed again in the senior 200 with Ram runners taking second through fourth. Denney won the event in 25.6 seconds, but the Scots still trailed by 10 points.

Deering took the top two spots in the junior 400 to expand their lead. McDevitt was third with Westbrook taking fourth and fifth. The Deering lead grew some more in the senior 400 when they earned finishes of second, fourth and fifth. Caleb Gosselin of Bonny Eagle was third.

Ruginski and Noah Schoneberg took first and second in the 600-meter run. Ruginski won it in 1:22.70. But, again, the Rams were right there picking up more points. In the 800, the Rams broke 100 points with another win and fourth place finish. With just the three relays to go, Deering had 103 points followed by Bonny Eagle with 83. Westbrook had moved up to third with 26 and Noble had 25.

Noble took the junior relay to move back up to third. Deering was second and Westbrook third. In the senior relay, Deering won in 2:26.20 with Bonny Eagle second and Noble third. In the final event of the day, the open relay, Deering picked up six more points with the win. Bonny Eagle was second and Westbrook took third.

The Scots and the Blue Blazes will be in action again this Saturday at the Portland Expo.
