Westbrook police are investigating several BB-gun incidents Tuesday night aimed at properties throughout the city.

Capt. Tom Roth said about a dozen residents called to report damaged house or car windows, most of which occurred between 8 and 9 p.m. Roth said some people did not discover bullet holes until Wednesday morning.

“The incidents were spread out through the entire city,” said Roth.

Police believe the shooter believed fired from a vehicle, given the quick succession of the incidents. One victim was driving when his window was hit by a shot fired from another car. Roth said the vehicle has not been identified.

Mike Wallace said he called police shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday when he heard glass shatter and discovered a silver dollar-sized hole in the outside pane of one of the windows at his East Bridge Street home.

“My wife and I were watching TV and heard that unmistakable sound of something sharp hitting glass,” said Wallace.

Wallace said police arrived a half hour later and informed him that they were investigating several other similar incidents. Wallace said that he had not heard a vehicle drive up or speed away, but that he had not been paying attention to traffic because he was watching the ball game.

“It sounds like a random act of vandalism,” said Wallace.

Wallace said he is interested in pressing charges.

Roth said that similar incidents that occurred last week may be related to Tuesday’s shootings. An investigation is ongoing, and victims would be informed if and when a suspect is identified.

“I would classify it as criminal mischief,” said Roth.
