The Westbrook American reported in its issue of Dec. 31, 1956, that Mr. and Mrs. Alton H. Benson Jr. owned an 11-year-old cow named Urbancrest Maggie Inka Walker that produced 13,417 pounds of milk and 549 pounds of butterfat in 307 days. The previous week, the paper reported a 5-year-old cow in the Benson herd produced 16,831 pounds of milk and 665 pounds of butterfat. The national average at that time was 5,815 pounds of milk and 224 pounds of butterfat, as reported by the Holstein-Friesian Association of America.
