Gardeners thinking spring

Jeff O’Donal will speak when the Gorham Garden Club meets at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at O’Donal’s Nusery on County Road, Gorham.

O’Donal’s topic will be plant propagation and the public is invited.

Bartlett attends inauguration

Sen. Phil Bartlett, D-Cumberland County, attended the inauguration of President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C., this week.

Bartlett, Maine senate majority leader, said he had arranged to stay with his relatives while in the nation’s capitol. Bartlett, who was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention last summer, was eligible for a ticket to the swearing-in ceremony.

Damon high honors grad

Elizabeth Damon, a Gorham High School graduate in 2005, has graduated from the University of Maine Honors College with high honors, receiving a bachelor of arts in psychology with a minor in dance.

Damon is the daughter of Duane and Pam Damon and the granddaughter of George and Ruth Ayers, all of School Street in Gorham.

Panel to focus on Death preparation

St. Anne’s Catholic Church is sponsoring a panel discussion about end-of-life care choices according to Catholic teaching and state law 2-3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8, at the church, 299 Main St.

Among the panelists are the Rev. Joseph Daniels, who has an advanced degree in bioethics; Kandyce Powell from Hospice; and Jennifer T. Minkowitz, an attorney who specializes in elder law.

Town planning Bruins trip

Alan Grady, director of youth/adult sports community programs at Gorham Parks and Recreation Department, has announced a trip to Boston on Saturday, Feb. 28, to see the Boston Bruins play the Washington Capitals.

The cost including motor coach transportation and game ticket is $65 each. Seats are in balcony level 305, rows 11-13.

Bus leaves at 9 a.m. from the Gorham Recreation Department, 75 South St., and will return after the game. Register online at www.gorhamrec.com or contact Grady at 222-1633.

U.S. taxpayer debt

The Bureau of Public Debt reported on Jan. 15 that the U.S. public debt was $10,627,708,753,691.49.
