Stephen Gurney remained in critical condition on Friday afternoon, two days after he crashed his motorcycle into a turning vehicle on William Clarke Drive in Westbrook.

Westbrook police say Gurney, 31, of Windham, was eastbound on a Honda motorcycle with a 15-year-old girl riding on the back when he struck the side of 2007 Honda Accord at approximately 8:15 Wednesday night. The Accord, driven by 54-year-old Linda Wright, of Gorham, was traveling westbound and turning left into Hannaford.

Police said damage to the bike and car were not indicative of excessive speed, though the motorcycle was likely traveling a few miles an hour over the speed limit.

Gurney was found unconscious but just a few feet from his motorcycle. Police said excessive speed would likely have catapulted Gurney farther from the motorcycle. Gurney was taken to Maine Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

The 15-year-old, whose name has not been released, was conscious at the scene, transported to Maine Medical Center and released. Police said she may have broken her wrist.

Wright was also treated at Maine Medical Center and released.

Police are reconstructing the accident to identify what caused the crash.
