Gorham’s restored old town clock will be rededicated in a ceremony at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Parish Congregational Church, 1 Church St.

The clock was a gift in 1868 to Gorham people from Toppan Robie, a leading political and business figure in Gorham.

The clock, which is deemed priceless, ticked away high in the steeple at the church until it stopped several years ago. The Town Council had it removed in 2006 for repair. E. Howard Clock Co. of Boston, Mass., manufactured the clock.

The Balzer Family Clock Works in Freeport restored the clock.

To protect the clockworks from the elements, it has been installed in the former organ chamber at the church with a shaft up through the steeple to turn the original hands on the clock’s four faces.

No taxpayer money was used to restore and reinstall the clock. In a statement from church moderator Mark Faunce, the church will offer thanks to “all of the people who gave so generously of their time and money to complete the project, especially the Bernard Rines and John Phinney families, who donated the lion’s share of the restoration funds.”

The public is invited to gather in the church sanctuary for the event.
