The University of Southern Maine Department of Theatre announces the opening of “To Gillian On Her 37th Birthday,” a play by Michael Brady. The production runs Thursday, Feb. 14, -Sunday, Feb. 17, at Russell Hall on the Gorham campus.
Originally produced Off Broadway in October 1983, the play concerns the healing process of a family two years after the death of a loved one, Gillian. Through flashbacks, memories, and interaction among those left behind, the audience sees the various ways a person grieves and eventually heals.
Kristen Peters, a USM senior in the theater department, makes her mainstage directorial debut with “Gillian.”
“The play is timeless, relevant, and has a big heart,” she said. “It’s about families, loss, and how families, for better or worse, deal with that loss.”
Performances will take place each night at 7:30 p.m., with a
5 p.m. performance on Feb. 17. Admission is $12-$5.
