Cub Scouts aid feathered friends
Members of Westbrook Cub Scout Pack 70, Den 5, recently constructed birdhouses as they work toward earning craftsman merit badges.
Ralph Berry, a retired industrial arts teacher, instructed the scouts about the use and safety measures of hand tools. Each scout assembled a birdhouse from a kit made by Berry.
Thanks to the help of Cub Master Art Morse and parents, the scouts finished their projects during the recent meeting.
Home Depot manager Jared Pinkham donated the lumber.

‘As Maine Grows’
Two actors from the Theater at Monmouth will present a short play titled “As Maine Grows” from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, in the Gathering Room of Walker Memorial Library, 800 Main St.
Marian Peterson, assistant library director, said David Greenham and Dennis Price are using historical characters, humor, little-known facts, thought-provoking stories and current events in a short play that will explore issues of growth and development in Maine.
“A discussion of the play, and how we think about change and growth in our state, will follow,” Peterson said.
Peterson said the free program is suitable for teens and adults and is sponsored by the Maine Humanities Council. Issues that may be covered are jobs, transportation, sprawl, demographics, health care, budget, education and environment.
Everyone is welcome and the library has ample parking and is handicap accessible. For more information, call Peterson at 854-0630 ext. 5.
