Rebecca Bowley of Hollis, chairwoman of School Administrative District 6 board of directors, has announced on its central office Facebook page that a special meeting has been scheduled this week to discuss two items behind closed doors.

The meeting appears to be connected with the board’s probe of nepotism allegations involving the district’s hiring of Zachariah Sherburne, a former SAD 6 educational technician who is the son of Superintendent Frank Sherburne. Zachariah Sherburne, 23, was arrested on March 15 on sex charges involving a 16-year old girl in another school district he had previously worked.

The board will convene at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 10, in the district’s central office, 94 Main St., Buxton. First, the announcement said, it will meet with its lawyer in executive session. Then in a separate executive session, it  will discuss a personnel matter. The meeting will not be televised.

SAD 6 has a nepotism policy that forbids relatives of school board members or the superintendent from working for the district with exceptions approved by the board. A school board panel has been investigating whether the policy had been violated.

Residents have presented a petition with more than 100 names calling for the board not to renew Frank Sherburne’s contract.

Bowley’s announcement warned the community that the board would not allow public comment in Tuesday’s meeting.

“Consistent with our policy on public participation at school board meetings, and given the limited scope of the agenda, we will not be entertaining public comment during this upcoming meeting,” the announcement reads. “In particular, our board policy BEDH provides: No complaints or allegations will be allowed at Board meetings concerning any person employed by MSAD 6 or against particular students. Personal matters or complaints concerning student or staff issues will not be considered in a public meeting but will be referred through established policies and procedures.”

Members of the school community wishing to share concerns “about school staff or operations,” the announcement said, should visit www.bonnyeagle.org/files/331961/KE-ParentComplaintsPerson.pdf.
