is bird-friendly gardens
The Scarborough Garden Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 15, in the recreation hall of the Hillcrest Retirement Center, off Route 1. Mad Horse party
kicks off season
The Mad Horse Theatre Company in South Portland will celebrate its 31st season with a special kick-off party on Friday, Sept. 16, 7-9 p.m. The event will be held at the historic Hutchins School, located at 24 Mosher St. All theater lovers and supporters of Mad Horse are invited to stop by, mingle and enjoy snacks, beer and wine.
Company members will also be on hand to perform a scene from the first show of the season, “The Totalitarians,” a comedy by Peter Sinn Nachtrieb, which opens on Sept. 29. See www.madhorse.com or call 747-4148 for more information.
MAINEiacs 5K
Saturday in city
The annual MAINEiacs 5K will be held in South Portland on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 8:30 a.m. The event, sponsored by the 243rd and 265th Air National Guard units, is designed to highlight the guard’s commitment to community involvement and volunteerism.
The race starts at 50 Western Ave., and same-day registration is $30. See www.sopomaineiacs5k.com for more information including registering online. The proceeds from this year’s race will go to the Travis Mills Foundation.
Family comic arts day
The Thomas Memorial Library in Cape Elizabeth is holding a family comic arts day on Saturday, Sept. 17. The event is free and open to the public.

Crafts guild show
this weekend
The 7th annual Maine Crafts Guild show will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17 and 18, at Camp Ketcha in Scarborough. Show hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday. Dan Schall in concert

Cape council hosting
citizens round table
The Cape Elizabeth Town Council will host a Citizens Round Table from 7-8:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, at the middle school. The goal is for residents to have input on the council goals for 2017.
Participants will break into groups to develop ideas and report back to the larger group. There will also be time for questions and answers from town officials and staff.
“Your input, ideas and opinions are valued and important to the goal-setting process,” the Town Council said in a flier sent to residents with their recent tax bills.
