Ann Marie Williams, the former tax collector for the city of Westbrook, pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court to embezzling $118,000 in cash receipts.
U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II made the announcement in a press release Monday afternoon.
Williams, 52, of Saco, had been suspected of embezzling the funds between July 2015 and April of this year. She was immediately relieved of the job once the embezzlement discovery was made, and an ensuing investigation was done by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
According to the release, Williams faces up to 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine. She will be sentenced after the completion of a pre-sentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
