‘The Sympathizer’

Merrill Memorial Library’s Readers Circle members will discuss the novel, “The Sympathizer,” by

Viet Thanh Nguyen, Thursday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m., at the library, 215 Main St. The winner of the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, as well as five other awards, “The Sympathizer” is a sweeping epic of love and betrayal. The narrator is a communist double agent who arranges to come to America after the fall of Saigon.

Flu shot clinic coming

A free flu vaccine clinic, organized by the Yarmouth Health Council, will be held Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 8 a.m.-noon, and Wednesday, Oct. 12, from 4-6 p.m., at the AMVETS Post 2, 148 North Road, Yarmouth. No appointment is necessary. Those who attend should bring their insurance ID card.

Chaplin film screening

The Merrill Film Society is hosting an informal gathering to view the film, “The Great Dictator” (1940), on Wednesday, Sept. 28. Showtime is 7 p.m., at Lewis Hall on Merrill Memorial Library’s third floor. The film is free and popcorn will be served. “The Great Dictator” is a political satire written, directed, produced and starring Charlie Chaplin.
