The Planning Board will hold a regular meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m., at the town office.

Scouts host dinner

to honor veterans

A free public supper to honor veterans will be held Wednesday Nov. 9, from 5-6:30 p.m., at the First Congregational Church of Durham, 773 Royalsborough Road. The dinner is sponsored by Boy Scout Troop 145 of Durham. All veterans are invited to attend with a guest. The menu is spaghetti, homemade sauce, homemade meatballs, garlic bread, assorted pies and desserts.

DCS craft fair

set for Nov. 12

Durham Community School will host a craft fair on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be a variety of vendors selling items including dips, Scentsy, sewing-quilting supplies, crafts and more. Breakfast and lunch will be offered, including baked goods, a variety of crock pot soups and stews. Popcorn and more.

Gun raffle tickets on sale

Durham Fire & Rescue has launched its annual “30 Days – 30 Guns in November” gun raffle. The organization is again working with Johnson’s Sporting Goods. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased from any member of the Durham Fire & Rescue Department. Those interested can stop by the station at 615 Hallowell Road or call 353-2473. Tickets can also be purchased at the Durham Get & Go at 697 Royalsborough Road. Sales are limited to 3,000 tickets, so the odds of winning are 1 in 100.

Snowmobilers

meet monthly

The Tri-Town Penguins Snowmobile Club meets on the last Tuesday of each month from September to April. Meetings are held at the Durham Fire Station, 615 Hallowell Road in Durham, beginning at 7 p.m. The next meeting is Tuesday, Nov. 29. New members are always welcome. Town Office notes

Absentee voting is happening now at the Durham Town Office, during regular business hours. Polls will be open on Tuesday, Nov. 8, from 8 a.m.-8 p.m., at the Durham Community School. Other options for obtaining an absentee ballot is to phone the office at 353-2561 and one will be mailed. For online request, see www.maine.gov.

The 2017 dog registration time runs now through Jan. 31. Come prepared with current rabies papers unless it is recorded already. Vaccines are now good for three years after the first year. The cost is $6 for altered dogs and $11 for unaltered dogs. A late fee of $25 per dog will go into effect Feb. 1, 2017.

Community Lunch

Tuesday, Nov. 15

The next Community Lunch schedule is Tuesday, Nov. 15, at the First Congregational Church of Durham, 773 Royalsborough Road. Doors open at 11:30 and the meal is served at noon. The suggested donation for lunch is $2-$4, and all proceeds fund future lunches.

The general schedule is the first and third Tuesday of the month. The church, located at the intersection of routes 9 and 136, is handicapped accessible. Those interested in helping or who have questions can call Julie Wagoner at 353-9715.

AMVETS auxiliary

planning craft fair

The AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary is looking for crafters to participate in the annual craft fair on Nov. 19. Contact Erica Burke for registration at 841-4017.

Veterans who want to belong to an organization that supports other veterans, families and the community are welcome to join the Durham AMVETS Post 13. The group meets the first and third Monday of the month, unless it’s a holiday, at 7 p.m. For more information, call Chad Burke, 798-0956.

Women who are the wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister or granddaughter (18 or older) of a veteran are invited to join the Durham AMVET Post 13 Ladies Auxiliary. The group meets the third Monday of each month at 7 p.m., at the hall. For more information, call Melinda Doughty, 841-4095.

Food pantry

The Lisbon Area Christian Outreach (LACO) food pantry, which serves the towns of Durham, Bowdoin, and Lisbon Falls, is open Wednesday from 6-8 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m.-noon and Saturday from 8-10 a.m. The LACO Food Pantry is located at the Marion T. Morse School on School Street, Lisbon Falls. The parking lot is behind the Lisbon United Methodist Church, off Berry Avenue. There is also a free clothing bank. Five Durham Community School students were chosen for their participation and effort in a Fire Prevention Week Coloring Contest last week. The fire department picked the students up at their homes last Friday morning in Durham Engine 21, and dropped them off at the school.
