Open House
this Saturday

WESTBROOK — A Public Safety Team Open House will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Westbrook Public Safety Building, 570 Main St.

Attendees can meet police, fire, EMS and 911 representatives, tour the Public Safety Building, check out cruisers, firetrucks and ambulances, learn about special equipment used, ask questions and express concerns.

Light refreshments will be served.

Busy month ahead
at Performing Arts Center

WESTBROOK — There’s a lot going on at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center. The following performances and other events are scheduled:

  • Saturday, April 8, 6 p.m. – Portland School of Ballet presents “Coppelia” as part of its Building Ballet Series. In addition to showcasing the dancers’ talent, the performance will educate the audience on what goes into ballet and what it takes to put one on.
  • Thursday, Apil 13, 7:30 p.m. – Ragamala Dance Company performs “Sacred Earth,” presented by Portland Ovations.
  • Saturday, April 15, 10 a.m. – Pine Tree State Championships 2017 features health, fitness and bodybuilding, along with exhibitor booths for the latest in health and fitness.
  • Saturday, April 22, noon – Chef Amy Z. returns for a cooking demonstration, “Tastes Like Home,” including vendors and prizes.
  • Friday, April 28, 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, April 29, 2 p.m. – Portland Ballet Company presents Act II of “Swan Lake” complemented with more contemporary works from the company’s repertoire.

Westbrook writers
at Books in ‘Brook

WESTBROOK — The monthly reading series Books in the ‘Brook will feature readings by two Westbrook’s own humor writer Kathy Eliscu and writer and performer Nathan Amadon from 4-5 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at Continuum for Creativity, 863 Main St.

Eliscu is the author of “Not Even Dark Chocolate Can Fix This Mess.” She is a regular contributor to local periodicals and newspapers, including My Generation magazine, Maine Women Magazine, Raising Maine, the Maine Sunday Telegram, Employment Times and Advance for Nurses.

Amadon, executive director of the spoken word organization, Port Veritans, has represented Maine six times at the National Poetry Slam competition. For the past 16 years he has been hosting weekly spoken word open mic nights every Tuesday in Portland. He has performed and conducted writing and performance workshops in and around Maine for the past 10 years.

Lowry’s celebrates
National Poetry Month

WESTBROOK – Celebrate National Poetry Month with Lowry’s Lodge and an Open Reading at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at Continuum for Creativity, 863 Main St. A $4 donation is suggested.
