The Westbrook American reported on April 24, 1957, that Jean (Cande) Gilbert, a sixth-grader at Rocky Hill School in Westbrook, won the city’s spelling bee.

Mr. and Mrs. Martin Grant of Westbrook had moved to Church Street from Bridge Street.
